In this talk, I will review our recent work on the growth and properties of (In,Ga,Al)As-based NWs on Si (111). In particular, I will highlight microstructure-electronic function relationships and show how the optical emission and electrical transport of these structures can be tuned by e.g. the underlying crystal phase, size quantum confinement, complex core-shell strategies, etc. Finally, two specific NW-based device concepts will be introduced, i.e., NW laser and III-V-on-Si NW-tunneling field effect transistor, and first results presented.

2nd presentation, 2:45pm-3:30pm
Dr. Asako Hirai (Senior R&D Scientist at Osram Opto Semiconductors)
“OSRAM – Introduction to LED Lighting”

OSRAM is one of the leading light manufacturers in the world.
